WARNING, THIS POST HAS A LOT OF PICTURES AND ANIMATIONS. PLEASE BE PATIENT WHILE IT LOADS.
It's also possible these specials are far too picture-heavy and/or awesome for your browser to handle, but I hope that won't be the case.
Can you see that one? Good. We only have two pictures inside it for this post, but they are GREAT. Check these out.
It’s a MICROSCOPE. Look, there’s even a space down there for you to put something and look at! Okay, it only magnifies the thing slightly but that is STILL A VERY COOL IDEA.
And look at THIS! A camera obscura. The box doesn’t close up completely until you bend the book open a bit, but it works incredibly well considering how tiny it is and it’s a pop-up come on.
Terrific useable gadgets, but what about those pop-ups that really seem to go above and beyond the page?
Funny you should ask.
Oh hey Asterix! What are you up to?
Contributing to the Roman space program, I see.
And check out this battle-spread!
How. How is it even that big. It even leans back out of the book a bit.
It’s almost like being there!
You know where else we could be? A Gaulish banquet of course!
It’s almost like being there! Look at that clever bit of engineering to give you a proper oval table instead of just a flat stand-up.
Now the Asterix pop up book definitely has bigger pop to it , but the next pop-up book has one lovely advantage over it. Not only do the pictures pop, but every page has little pull-tabs you can mess around with.
Oh, I’m sorry, Action Book.
I said I was sorry!
Now this is a pretty neat pop up effect. But we don’t care because look on the side there are pull tabs!
I think the dinosaur book took over this post. But look at those biting and flapping actions. It really makes the models come to life.
I’m going to sleep with one eye open.
But wait. What’s this? Special guest stars?
What’s so special about these, you might ask? Well, not only are they AMAZING, but… well I don’t want to spoil it, but you might see them reappear in another week.
Let’s start with the Earth Pack.
LOOK at that volcano. Also the sun came around at the just the right moment to hit the dust cloud. Amazing. What’s great about this book is that all the pop-ups are double-sided. No plain white back for THIS volcano, no sir.
It also has some pullers.
And just look at this hurricane!
There’s a clear plastic column in the middle so you can see the air currents! How creative is that. But that’s not the coolest thing on this page. Not at all. You see that thing in the corner?
You see this harmless looking cloud?
POP UP TORNADO.
But let’s talk about Diary of a Monster Catcher. Colourful, full of personality, full of STUFF, it’s a treat.
“Woah woah wait. The pop up’s mouth is a FLAP? I thought we weren’t doing flap books until next week!” I hear you cry. Well the joke’s on you.
It’s a tiny pop up inside the pop up.
Check out this flap.
Got you again!
Well maybe this one is just an innocent flap.
BUT NO. It’s another tiny pop up!
And as a little bonus:
Well guys I hope this was as fun for you as it was for us! And I hope you'll be with us for the next posts! We'll tackle books with flaps, books with physical goodies, and books that aren't in any category but are still very awesome!
I just hope all those pictures loaded. We probably won't have as many pictures in the next three posts. Not if I can keep Smiles away from the camera.
Not a chance!
